The Tennis Team finished second in District 12 play at Robinson on March 30th. Three teams of four that participated, qualified for Regional II play at Richland Hills on 4/10/23. Two Wampus Cat teams won first place honors in conference play. Michelle Chavez and Michael Flores defeated Valley Mills for the Mixed Doubles Championship, and CJ Marshall and Daniela Chavez defeated Frost for first place honors in Girls Doubles. First year players, Joseph Gurrusquieta and Alex Andrade qualified for regional play as they finished second in Boys Doubles.
All three teams won their first round matches in Regional II play at Richland Hills. Chavez and Marshall lost a tough battle (4-6, 4-6) to Archer City in second round play in Girls Doubles. Michael Flores and Michelle Chavez went 3 sets (6-3, 4-6, 5-7), to be defeated by eventual Regional II Champion and state qualifier, Archer City, in Mixed Doubles.
Junior Arekxy Quiros shows outstanding promise with big wins late in the season. Freshmen Kathy Virrueta and Roy Perales will have gained valuable experience in their first year of ever playing.
The Cats are looking forward to the 2023-2024 season as they graduate only three team members. Alex Andrade, Sandra Diaz and Daniela Chavez will be missed as the team wishes them well in their future endeavors
